Borussia Dortmund captain Emre Can didn’t hold back following his team’s humiliating 4-0 defeat to Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final at Lluis Companys Stadium.

“It’s not a question of system but rather of whether everyone is willing to give 100% and make the sacrifices required in games like this,” Can told DAZN, voicing his frustration.

The German midfielder highlighted Dortmund’s glaring issues — soft play, poor team cohesion, and costly basic errors — that led to all four of Barcelona’s goals.

Head coach Niko Kovac also conceded that the defeat was well-deserved. “Barcelona capitalized on every mistake we made with their superior quality,” he stated in the post-match press conference.

With Dortmund now in eighth place in the Bundesliga, five points behind the Champions League qualification zone, the second leg at Signal Iduna Park next week will be a mountain to climb.
