Emma Hayes shares her views on England’s chances at Euro 2025

Emma Hayes, the United States women’s national team coach, has expressed confidence in England’s potential at Euro 2025 starting next month — placing them among the main title contenders alongside Germany and world champions Spain.

This statement comes amid significant squad changes for England — first-choice goalkeeper Mary Earps retiring from international duty, midfielder Fran Kirby stepping down after squad exclusion, and Millie Bright withdrawing to focus on mental and physical wellbeing.

“Of course, coaches always have selection dilemmas and I respect Sarina’s decisions with the players she had,” Hayes stated in an interview with ESPN Futbol W.

England, currently ranked 4th in the world, will face:

  • France
  • Netherlands
  • Wales

in the Euro 2025 group stage set to take place in Switzerland.

Hayes will use this tournament to observe potential US opponents for the 2027 World Cup, given the difficulty of arranging friendlies with European teams due to the packed UEFA Nations League schedule.
