Dutch coaches phenomenon growing rapidly in Indonesian football

The wave of Dutch coaches — which has become a new phenomenon in Indonesian football — began with Jan Olde Riekerink’s arrival at Dewa United two years ago.

Pieter Huistra became part of this trend by coaching several League 1 clubs last season — including Borneo FC and PSS Sleman.

The momentum grew stronger after PSSI appointed Patrick Kluivert as Indonesia’s national team coach. The former Ajax Amsterdam striker brought his assistants from his homeland — successfully leading the national team to the fourth round.

This success has encouraged League 1 clubs to follow similar steps — recruiting tacticians from the Netherlands.
