Drama at Arechi – Sampdoria survives relegation to Serie C

According to Sportmediaset, Sampdoria avoided relegation to Serie C after defeating Salernitana 2-0 in the second leg of the play-out match at Arechi Stadium.

The team coached by Alberico Evani — former AC Milan legend — took the lead through goals scored by Massimo Coda and Giuseppe Sibilli. However, the match had to be stopped in the 65th minute due to fan riots.

The stadium atmosphere turned chaotic when home supporters — frustrated by their team’s deficit — started throwing various objects onto the pitch.

  • Lighting flares
  • Throwing smoke bombs
  • Damaging stadium facilities
  • Hurling stadium seats

The match will not be resumed with the final score remaining 2-0 for Sampdoria, or possibly being declared a 3-0 walkover victory. This result complements their 2-0 win in the first leg held a week ago at Luigi Ferraris Stadium.

Sampdoria now awaits FIGC’s official decision regarding their status in Serie B for the 2025-2026 season.
