Dutch women’s footballer Djenna de Jong surprised fans with an announcement yesterday, revealing that she has cancelled her plan to join the Indonesia national team, as shared via her personal Instagram account.

The decision came after numerous fans inquired about the progress of her naturalization process. As a player of Indonesian descent, de Jong finally chose to speak out.

“Hi everyone. It’s been quite a while since I heard anything, especially about the national team,” wrote de Jong. “I’ve received many messages asking what’s next. I know many of you are wondering what’s going on and why I haven’t reached out for so long.”

In her post, de Jong revealed that she experienced unprofessional treatment during the naturalization process to join the Indonesia women’s national football team — a key reason behind her decision to withdraw from the plan.
