Diego Luna scores twice as USA advances to Gold Cup final

Diego Luna delivered a brilliant performance with two goals that propelled the United States into the Gold Cup final after defeating Guatemala 2-1 at Energizer Stadium, St. Louis.

The 21-year-old midfielder — proved his class by scoring in the fourth minute from a goalkeeper rebound. Eleven minutes later, Luna struck again with a powerful shot after receiving a cross-field pass from Malik Tillman.

Despite the stadium being filled with predominantly Guatemala supporters, Luna maintained his composure and focus. Senior defender Tim Ream acknowledged that the hostile atmosphere served as a valuable lesson for the young US squad.

“Individually, of course there’s excitement and praise, but the most important thing is that we’re into the final,” Luna said after the match.

Guatemala managed to pull one back in the 80th minute through Olger Escobar, but the US held on to their lead until the final whistle. The United States will now face classic rivals Mexico in the final this weekend.
