Diaspora players begin to enliven Indonesian Super League 2025/2026 season

Indonesian domestic competition enters a new chapter — Liga 1 has officially rebranded as Super League for the 2025/2026 season.

This name change has brought significant impact — local clubs are now more active in recruiting Indonesian diaspora players who have careers abroad.

Previously, it was rare to see diaspora players choosing to compete in the domestic league after careers in Europe — the most notable example being Stefano Lilipaly who joined Bali United from SC Cambuur about eight years ago.

In this season’s transfer window, three clubs have successfully signed diaspora players — marking a positive trend shift in Indonesian football development.
