Di Maria and Otamendi save Benfica from defeat in Club World Cup

Two Argentinian players — Angel Di Maria and Nicolas Otamendi — emerged as heroes for Benfica against Boca Juniors in Group C of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in Miami.

The match, which took place a day after Bayern Munich’s commanding victory over Auckland City, featured several big names — including former Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera, who represented Boca Juniors.

Benfica fielded two impressive Argentine players, while Edinson Cavani was absent from both Boca Juniors’ starting lineup and bench.

This match served as a final warmup for Di Maria before his return to Argentine football — the winger will join his first club, Rosario Central, after the tournament concludes.
