Di Giannantonio experiences horrific incident with Martin at Qatar GP

Fabio Di Giannantonio from Team VR46 experienced a serious incident with Jorge Martin at the Qatar GP — an event he described as “the worst scene of my life.”

The dramatic incident occurred when Martin lost control of his Aprilia at the fast Turn 12 on lap 14 — Di Giannantonio, who was following closely behind, had no chance to avoid hitting the Spanish rider.

“He was in front of me and went a bit wide. I was pretty close to him,” explained the VR46 rider. “I tried to overtake him, but once he crashed, his body was completely in front of my bike. And that is a really fast corner.”

Martin, who was making his comeback after a pre-season accident, was immediately rushed to a Doha hospital — doctors confirmed he suffered eight fractured ribs and chest trauma.

  • Yellow flag was shown for almost two full laps
  • Martin received treatment at track edge
  • Di Giannantonio finished the race in 16th position
  • Italian rider checked on Martin‘s condition after race

“I was thinking of him the whole race because I was really scared. I stopped outside of his pit box just at the end of the race to check his condition from the team,” Di Giannantonio revealed.
