Denver NWSL Appoints Nick Cushing as Inaugural Head Coach

According to ESPN, Denver’s NWSL expansion team is in final stages to appoint Nick Cushing as their inaugural head coach ahead of the team’s 2026 season debut.

Cushing — who recently served as Manchester City Women’s interim manager this March — has an impressive track record during his nearly two-decade tenure with City Football Group.

Cushing’s achievements include:

  • League title with Manchester City Women in 2016
  • FA Women’s Cup trophy in 2017
  • MLS Cup title with NYCFC as assistant coach in 2021

Before returning to Manchester City Women, Cushing led New York City FC for the past three seasons — with his best result being sixth place in the Eastern Conference this season.

Denver’s team, which has yet to reveal their branding, will join Boston Legacy FC to complete a 16-team NWSL lineup next season.
