Defensive Line Falters, Left Wing Works Overtime, Indonesia Collects Yellow Cards

Jakarta, July 21, 2025 – Indonesia U-23’s defense began to show signs of vulnerability late in the first half as Malaysia intensified their attacking pressure. The backline struggled to maintain coordination, especially against quick counterattacks.

Indonesia’s left wing had to work overtime, with players like Victor Dethan tracking back frequently to close gaps. Several tactical fouls were committed to stop Malaysian advances, demonstrating the pressure the team was under.

This sustained pressure forced Indonesia into a more physical style of play. The referee issued two yellow cards to Indonesian players in quick succession near the end of the half.

A lack of balance between aggression and control led Garuda Muda into Malaysia’s fast-paced, high-contact rhythm. Without adjustments, the team risks not only disciplinary consequences but also gaps in defense heading into the second half.
