Deco reveals unexpected reason behind Joan Garcia’s transfer to Barcelona

Deco, Barcelona’s Sports Director, revealed a surprising fact about Joan Garcia’s transfer from Espanyol — the club actually had no plans to recruit a new goalkeeper in this summer’s transfer window.

Barcelona had to spend 25 million euros to trigger Joan Garcia’s release clause from their city rivals. The 24-year-old goalkeeper becomes Barcelona’s first signing in summer 2025.

Garcia’s arrival adds to Hansi Flick’s goalkeeper roster — currently having three goalkeepers: Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Wojciech Szczesny, and Inaki Pena.
