Deco Confirms Barcelona’s Serious Interest in Nico Williams from Athletic Club

According to La Vanguardia, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco has confirmed the club’s interest in Athletic Club winger Nico Williams.

Barcelona’s attacking line currently needs reinforcement — the club only has Lamine Yamal and Raphinha as natural wingers. A meeting between Deco and Williams’ agent, Felix Tainta, took place last week to discuss transfer possibilities.

“Nico is showing a strong desire to join. If the right conditions are met, we will try to complete the deal,” said Deco.

Barcelona previously failed to sign Williams last summer due to LaLiga registration issues. The 22-year-old player has a release clause of €58 million.

A controversial incident occurred when some Athletic Club supporters erased Williams’ image from the players’ mural. Athletic Club strongly defended Williams and stated that such actions do not reflect the club’s values.

“Those who erased Nico’s image from Carlos Lopez’s mural in Barakaldo do not represent Athletic,” the club stated firmly.
