De Bruyne Doubtful About Club World Cup Participation with Manchester City

Kevin De Bruyne has expressed uncertainty about participating in the upcoming Club World Cup 2025, set to take place in June-July in the United States. The 33-year-old midfielder is currently weighing his options as his contract with Manchester City is set to expire in a few weeks.

De Bruyne Concerned About Injury Risks

In a recent interview, De Bruyne said,

“I have to take care of myself — if I get injured in the Club World Cup, what am I going to do? Nobody’s going to take care of me at that point.”

After securing 14 major trophies during a decade-long career with Manchester City, he remains cautious about risking injury before securing his next move.

Family and Future in Focus

The Belgian star also emphasized that his family — including three children — plays a big role in his decision-making. Manchester City has reportedly chosen not to offer a contract extension, leaving De Bruyne free to explore options.

New Format Allows Short-Term Contracts

The Club World Cup’s new format, now expanded to 32 teams, allows players to sign short-term contracts specifically for the tournament. While this opens a door for potential participation, De Bruyne remains hesitant.

City’s Season and De Bruyne’s Legacy

This season ended disappointingly for Manchester City, failing to retain the Premier League title and recently losing the FA Cup final. Still, De Bruyne remains proud of his time at the club:

“This doesn’t change what has been achieved in the past 10 years.”
