David Alaba suffers calf injury during knee recovery

Defender David Alaba has sustained a new calf injury — Real Madrid confirmed this on Friday. The 33-year-old player was previously recovering from a left knee meniscus injury suffered in April.

Coach Xabi Alonso provided details about his player’s condition:

“David is taking a bit longer to recover. After the meniscus operation we need to be cautious and patient, so step by step, we’ll wait a bit longer.”

Real Madrid is currently facing a busy schedule in the Club World Cup with several key players still injured:

  • Dani Carvajal, Éder Militão and Eduardo Camavinga are recovering in Palm Beach
  • Ferland Mendy and Endrick are still under treatment in Madrid

Amid this situation, young striker Gonzalo García has impressed by scoring two goals in three group matches in the United States — including in the 3-0 victory over Salzburg in Philadelphia.
