Maarten Paes, the Dallas FC goalkeeper, has revealed his long journey before earning the opportunity to represent the Indonesia National Team. The 26-year-old officially became an Indonesian citizen approximately 11 months ago.

Paes’ path to joining the Indonesia National Team — was initially hindered when FIFA rejected his association transfer from the Netherlands to Indonesia. The rejection stemmed from his previous status as a Netherlands U-21 player.

The PSSI took decisive action by filing an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) about seven months ago. After a lengthy 111-day process — the former Jong Utrecht goalkeeper finally received permission to strengthen the Indonesia National Team.

Now, Maarten Paes has officially debuted with the Garuda squad and has become a key player between the goalposts for the Indonesia National Team.

His inclusion significantly boosts Indonesia’s goalkeeping depth, providing international experience and stability to the squad as they compete in upcoming tournaments.
