Crystal Palace to appeal UEFA’s decision on Conference League relegation

Crystal Palace Chairman Steve Parish has announced they will appeal UEFA’s decision to relegate the club to the Conference League — Europe’s third-tier competition.

UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) determined that the Premier League club had too close ties with Lyon, as both clubs qualified for Europa League. Lyon was allowed to remain in the competition due to their higher domestic league finish.

“We are still fighting. There’s an appeal process to CAS and we’re very hopeful. We have great legal arguments and don’t think this is the right decision,” stated Parish.

The issue arose because Eagle Football Holdings, led by John Textor, previously held 77% stake in Lyon and 43.9% in Palace — exceeding UEFA’s 30% threshold. Nottingham Forest will take Palace’s place in Europa League next season.
