Christian Horner puzzled by McLaren’s technical superiority in F1

Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing team principal, expresses his bewilderment regarding McLaren’s technical prowess in managing tire wear — particularly on hot tracks like Austria.

Red Bull’s impressive streak of 77 consecutive point-scoring races came to an end after Max Verstappen crashed out and Yuki Tsunoda finished last. Meanwhile, McLaren duo Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri dominated the race by securing first and second positions.

“What’s truly impressive is how Oscar can follow Lando so closely with a fuel-heavy car at the race start, and the tires don’t suffer. I can’t see any other team being able to do this,” states Horner.

Disappointment deepened when Verstappen collided with Mercedes rookie driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli in the opening lap — an incident that shattered the team’s hopes for a strong performance at their home circuit.

  • Crash at Turn 3
  • Antonelli lost car control
  • Verstappen eliminated while exiting the corner
