Chloe Kelly becomes England’s hero in Euro 2024 final

Chloe Kelly emerged as the hero as England defended their European title by defeating Spain on penalties in the Euro 2024 final in Basel.

Coming on as a first-half substitute for injured Lauren James, Kelly provided the assist for Alessia Russo’s equalizer — after Mariona Caldentey had put Spain ahead earlier.

The match proceeded to penalties after the deadlock remained unbroken in regular time. Spain failed to convert three of their attempts, paving the way for Kelly to secure the 3-1 shootout victory.

“I was calm and composed. I knew I was going to hit the back of the net. I don’t miss penalties twice,” Kelly told BBC.

“I am so proud of this team. So grateful to wear this badge. Proud to be English,” she added.

This victory marks England’s second consecutive Euro title following their success three years ago.
