Chen/Toh Survive Tough Opening Match at Indonesia Open 2025

Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, Malaysia’s world No. 4 mixed doubles pair, faced a stern test in their opening match at the Indonesia Open 2025, eventually defeating India’s Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto, with scores of 21-11, 16-21, 21-14 in a 59-minute encounter at Istora Senayan, Jakarta.

Strong Start, Mid-Match Challenge

The second-seeded Malaysians began confidently, securing five consecutive points early in the first game and leading 11-4 at the interval. They maintained their dominance to take the game 21-11.

However, the Indian duo, ranked 17th globally, rebounded in the second game. Despite Kapila receiving treatment for a foot injury, they capitalized on the Malaysians’ unforced errors to win 21-16, leveling the match.

Decisive Third Game

In the final game, Chen/Toh regained their composure, establishing an early lead and maintaining it to close out the match 21-14. Post-match, Toh Ee Wei acknowledged their struggle to find rhythm but emphasized their mutual confidence.

Chen Tang Jie praised Tanisha Crasto‘s aggressive play, noting it pushed them to stay consistent on the court.

Next Challenge

Advancing to the second round, Chen/Toh will face Denmark’s Mads Vestergaard and Christine Busch, whom they have previously defeated at the French Open 2023 and Japan Open 2024.
