Chelsea Women Receives Major Investment from Reddit Co-Founder

According to ESPN, Chelsea Women received significant financial backing after Alexis Ohanian — Reddit co-founder and Angel City FC co-owner — acquired a 10% stake in the team for $26.52 million.

“This will be America’s team,” stated Ohanian, who aims to develop Chelsea into a “billion-dollar franchise.”

This investment strengthens Chelsea’s connection with the United States — which previously demonstrated its commitment by signing Catarina Macario and Mia Fishel in 2023, along with the world-record transfer of Naomi Girma for $1.1 million from San Diego Wave earlier this year.

The club has begun the transfer season by bringing in two young talents — Swiss goalkeeper Livia Peng and German forward Mara Alber. Both players are part of the “Vision 2030” project focusing on youth development.

Chelsea is also targeting several other transfers, including young USWNT player Lily Yohannes and Canadian forward Olivia Smith who plays for Liverpool. The club is also seeking a right-back as successor to Lucy Bronze who is entering her final contract year.
