Chelsea falls to Flamengo in Club World Cup match

Pedro Neto acknowledged Flamengo showed more desire in their Club World Cup victory over Chelsea on Friday — though he remains grateful for the opportunity to participate in this prestigious tournament.

Despite Neto scoring his second goal in two matches, Chelsea faced defeat after Bruno Henrique equalized and Danilo put Flamengo ahead. The situation worsened when Nicolas Jackson received a red card, before Wallace Yan sealed the 3-1 victory for the Brazilian side.

“The second half was the turning point — in the first half they might have had more possession but we created more chances,” stated Neto.

“We must be thankful to play in this tournament. Many players would love to be in my position and others’ positions. We have to enjoy it.”

Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella noted that South American teams have different momentum in this tournament — considering Boca Juniors’ loss to Bayern Munich was the first defeat for Brazilian or Argentine teams in 10 matches since the competition began.

Chelsea now must defeat Esperance Sportive de Tunis next Tuesday to advance to the round of 16.
