Chelsea Edge Past Benfica in Weather-Affected Club World Cup Match

Chelsea moved closer to the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 quarter-finals after defeating Benfica 1-0 at the Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte.

A spectacular free kick from Reece James proved decisive for The Blues — however, the match had to be suspended due to dangerous weather conditions with lightning present around the stadium.

Chelsea showed dominance from the start — Neto created the first opportunity from inside the penalty box which was safely handled by goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin.

In the 20th minute, Marc Cucurella nearly put Chelsea ahead — but his effort was denied by Antonio Silva who managed to clear the ball right on the goal line.
