The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has just issued a controversial rule — players who stand on the ball with both feet will receive a yellow card and the opposing team will be awarded an indirect free kick.

CBF states that the act of standing on the ball not only risks injury but also causes disruptions in matches and is considered a provocation to opponents.

“Football is getting more and more boring,” Santos captain Neymar wrote on Instagram.

Corinthians star Memphis Depay — who recently performed this action during the Campeonato Paulista final against Palmeiras — expressed his disagreement after the 3-0 victory over Vasco da Gama.

“They prefer to create rules about not being able to get on the ball, what are we talking about? Brazil is a country where we play soccer not just with feet, but also with head. They have to do a better job,” said Depay.

This new rule has sparked significant debate among players, coaches, and fans—while the CBF aims to reduce disruptions and injuries, many believe it undermines the flair and creativity that Brazilian football is known for.

As the debate continues, it remains to be seen whether this rule will have a lasting impact on the game in Brazil and beyond.
