Carlos Sainz Faces Car Issues, Starts 19th at Austrian GP

Carlos Sainz faced a challenging day in Austrian GP qualifying — the Williams Formula 1 driver must settle for 19th position due to car damage.

Serious issues were detected on his FW47 car during Q1 session. “The car is undriveable. When I say undriveable, it’s pulling under braking, no load in high speed,” Sainz stated through team radio.

Williams team confirmed damage to the car’s floor. The 30-year-old driver also experienced brake problems pulling his car to one side — a particularly disadvantageous situation considering this circuit’s three heavy braking zones.

His teammate Alex Albon managed to progress to Q2, showing the true potential of the Williams car. Sainz believes that under normal conditions, he could have reached Q2 based on their performance throughout the weekend.

“I’m not here to be P19. This bad run of races is happening, and we as a team need to push together and find better solutions,” added the Spanish driver.
