Carlos Sainz expressed his dissatisfaction with Formula 1’s 2026 regulations — the Ferrari driver would prefer returning to V10 engines.

“I wouldn’t be too vocal supporting the comeback of a V10 engine if I liked what I saw from 2026. But as I don’t really like what I see from 2026, I would say yes — I would like a V10 engine back sooner,” said Sainz.

His teammate, Charles Leclerc, also voiced similar concerns about the new regulations.

“I think V10 will be great. What I’ve been seeing for next year is not something that is particularly exciting for me. I would say most of us are sharing the same opinion,” stated Leclerc.

The 2026 regulations agreed upon four years ago — focus on increasing electrical systems and removing the expensive ERS-H.

While successfully attracting Audi and Cadillac, F1 stakeholders are beginning to realize the unintended consequences of these regulations.

Discussion about potential V10 engine return continues to grow implementation could happen between 2029 and 2031. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton showed indifference to the debate.
