Carlos Cuesta becomes youngest Serie A coach, leaves Arsenal for Parma

Parma has appointed Carlos Cuesta as head coach with a two-year contract — replacing Cristian Chivu who joined Inter Milan.

The 29-year-old coach leaves his position as Mikel Arteta’s assistant at Arsenal — where he has served for the past five years. Cuesta is known as a player development specialist who speaks six languages, including Italian.

Cuesta’s career journey began at Atletico Madrid’s academy, followed by a learning period at various European clubs. After spending two years at Juventus academy, he joined Arsenal in 2020 — where he played a crucial role in the club’s rise as title challengers.

This appointment makes history — Cuesta becomes the youngest coach in Serie A in almost a century. The previous record was held by Elio Loschi who led Triestina as player-coach in 1939.

Coincidentally, Cuesta’s first match with Parma will be against his former club, Juventus.
