Carlo Ancelotti sentenced to prison for tax evasion case in Spain

The Madrid Provincial Court has handed down a prison sentence to Brazil national team coach Carlo Ancelotti over tax evasion charges, as reported by BBC Sport.

The former Real Madrid manager — was found guilty of failing to pay 1 million euros (approximately $19 million) in taxes during his first spell with Los Blancos from 2013 to 2015.

In addition to the one-year prison term, the 66-year-old coach must also pay a fine of 386,361.93 euros (approximately $7.3 million).

According to ESPN, prosecutors initially sought harsher penalties:

  • Four years in prison
  • Fine of 3.2 million euros (approximately $60.8 million)

The charges were filed because Ancelotti only reported his Real Madrid salary — without including his image rights income in his Spanish tax returns.
