Marc Brys Denies Resignation Amid Cameroon Coaching Controversy

Marc Brys has firmly denied reports of his resignation as head coach of the Cameroon national team, despite an official announcement from the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) confirming his departure.

A resignation letter dated 21 July, allegedly signed by Brys, cited unpaid salaries for more than 60 days as the basis for terminating his contract. In response, FECAFOOT quickly issued a statement acknowledging and accepting the resignation.

However, the Belgian coach has refuted the claims, informing Cameroon’s Ministry of Sports that the resignation email may have been the result of a cybersecurity breach, stating he never submitted any formal resignation. The ministry has since confirmed that Brys remains in his post as head coach.

This controversy emerges just five months before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, where Cameroon has been drawn into a challenging group alongside:

  • Ivory Coast (defending champions)

  • Gabon

  • Mozambique

In addition to AFCON preparations, Cameroon remains in the hunt for a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, currently second in their qualifying group, just one point behind Cape Verde with four matches left to play.
