Calvin Verdonk Reminisces Meeting Shin Tae-yong: Memorable Debut

Calvin Verdonk, a defender for NEC Nijmegen, revealed a memorable moment from his first meeting with former Indonesia national team coach Shin Tae-yong.

The initial encounter took place about a year ago, specifically when Verdonk received his first call-up to the Indonesia national team in March 2024.

Shin Tae-yong, who has since left his position earlier this year, became a key figure in Verdonk’s international career. The South Korean coach handed the 27-year-old defender his debut in the World Cup 2026 Qualifier match against the Philippines.

Since his debut ten months ago, Verdonk has established himself as Indonesia’s primary left-back, recording nine appearances for the Garuda Squad.
