Cadillac reveals secrets behind their 2026 F1 car design

Graeme Lowdon, Cadillac Formula 1 team principal, reveals key considerations in designing their car livery for the 2026 season — proper color selection emerges as a central focus.

In his discussion on the High Performance Podcast, Lowdon explained surprising technical aspects: “White cars weigh several grams more than black ones — a significant difference in F1. Light-colored vinyl wraps also require thicker materials compared to dark colors.”

Another challenge arises from heat management — light colors tend to discolor when exposed to high temperatures. While modern cooling systems handle most engine heat, color selection must still account for this factor.

“I’ve always thought that our car should pass the 12-year-old fan test. It needs to be the car they want to poster on their bedroom wall,” said Lowdon.

As part of Cadillac’s iconic design heritage, the team aims for an aggressive and impressive appearance — not just a fast but forgettable car. Cadillac will join the championship with General Motors support, though next year’s driver lineup remains unannounced.
