Eugenie Bouchard to Retire after Farewell Match in Montreal

Eugenie Bouchard, one of Canada’s most iconic tennis players, has officially announced her retirement from professional tennis. The 31-year-old will play one final match at the upcoming National Bank Open in Montreal, scheduled for August 19–25, marking an emotional farewell on home soil.

Bouchard’s retirement caps a career highlighted by her historic Wimbledon final appearance in 2014, where she became the first Canadian woman to reach a Grand Slam final. That same year, she also reached the semifinals at the Australian Open and French Open, propelling her to a career-high ranking of No. 5 in the world.

Though her momentum was later derailed by injuries and inconsistent form, Bouchard remained a fan favorite—both for her achievements and off-court presence as a media personality and commentator.

“This is the right time for me,” Bouchard said.

“Finishing in Montreal, in front of my home crowd, is the perfect ending.”

Her farewell match is expected to draw a warm response from Canadian fans, as it signals the end of a significant chapter in the nation’s tennis history.
