Borges Receives Additional Three-Match Ban After Pushing NWSL Referee

Ary Borges, midfielder for Racing Louisville FC, has received an additional three-match suspension from the NWSL Disciplinary Committee after pushing the head referee following a match against Portland Thorns.

Brazilian International Faces Major Game Misconduct Charge

The Brazilian international had already served a one-match suspension but will now miss three more matches due to what the league described as “major game misconduct.”

The incident followed a heated 3-3 draw, a game that set an NWSL record with 41 fouls. Portland Thorns equalized with a penalty in the 10th minute of second-half stoppage time.

NWSL Reiterates Zero-Tolerance Policy on Abuse of Officials

“The NWSL has a zero-tolerance policy regarding abuse of officials and will continue to uphold the integrity of the game and the conduct expected of all players, coaches and club personnel,” the league stated.

Borges Criticizes Referee on Social Media

After the match, Borges took to Instagram, calling referee Corbyn May’s officiating “a shame” and “unacceptable for a league of this level.”

Washington Spirit Coach Also Sanctioned

In a separate incident, Washington Spirit head coach Jonatan Giráldez was handed an additional one-match suspension for refusing to leave the field after being ejected during a game against NJ/NY Gotham FC.
