Bonmatí Regrets Penalty Miss in Euro 2025 Final

Aitana Bonmatí apologized after missing her penalty in Spain’s defeat to England in the Euro 2025 final on Sunday (7/27).

World champions Spain — who dominated with 22 shots compared to England’s eight — had to concede victory to their opponents on penalties after the match ended 1-1.

“I’m in shock. We gave everything. I must apologize for my penalty miss and congratulate England,” Bonmatí told RTVE.

The Ballon d’Or winner — who fought off viral meningitis before the Euros — was named Player of the Tournament, while her teammate Esther González claimed the Golden Boot with four goals.

“From the 70th minute onwards, we were in control of the game. We were the better team. England weren’t getting forward, but no one is to blame: we win and lose together,” added the Barcelona midfielder.

Spain captain Irene Paredes also expressed her disappointment — her team failed to add to their trophy collection after World Cup success two years ago in their first-ever Euro final appearance.
