Boca Juniors stumble against semi-amateur Auckland City in Club World Cup

Boca Juniors recorded a disappointing result in the 2025 Club World Cup after being held to a 1-1 draw by semi-amateur Auckland City at Geodis Park, Nashville.

The 35-time Argentine league champions — who came as favorites — performed below expectations against Auckland City who had previously conceded 16 goals in their first two matches.

Despite taking the lead through Nathan Garrow’s own goal, Boca Juniors failed to maintain their advantage — when Christian Gray equalized with a header from Jerson Lagos’s corner kick.

Interestingly, the majority of Auckland City players have primary jobs outside football — including Lagos who works as a barber in his country.
