Karim Benzema has silenced his critics in his second season with Al Ittihad, rediscovering his scoring touch while brushing off talk about a top scorer rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League.

“For me, it’s all about helping the team win, not about individual scoring titles,” said the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner in a recent interview.

After joining Al Ittihad two years ago, the French striker endured a tough debut season — scoring just 9 goals in 21 appearances. Issues with team adaptation and internal challenges were cited as key obstacles.

This season, Benzema has turned things around dramatically. He’s already netted 20 goals in 29 matches across all competitions, including the Saudi Pro League and AFC Champions League.

His resurgence has played a crucial role in Al Ittihad’s campaign as the club aims to secure a top-four finish in the league standings.
