Benfica president denies Real Madrid offer for Alvaro Carreras

Benfica president Rui Costa has denied rumors regarding Real Madrid’s offer for left-back Alvaro Carreras — who turns 23 next week.

“Let them make us an offer. We haven’t received anything yet. If they do, we’ll see what happens,” Costa told Marca.

Carreras — a Real Madrid academy product — joined Benfica about a year ago from Manchester United for a €6 million transfer fee. His performance with the Portuguese club has been impressive with three goals from 32 league appearances and 10 matches in Champions League.

Regarding the future of the player who is contracted until 2029 with a €50 million release clause, Costa emphasized that discussions will only take place after the Club World Cup ends.

“Now is not the time, and it won’t be until the tournament is over. Until then, there’s nothing to talk about. Carreras is here with us,” Costa stated.
