Not Even 10 Minutes In, Machino Scores Japan’s Fifth Goal Against Indonesia

The second half of the match between Japan and Indonesia at Suita City Stadium, Osaka, had just begun when Shuto Machino added his name to the scoresheet. Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Machino netted Japan’s fifth goal in this final Group C match of the AFC 2026 World Cup Qualifiers on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

This goal further emphasized Japan’s dominance over Indonesia. From the very beginning, the Samurai Blue played aggressively and controlled most of the match. At one point, possession stats showed Japan holding 68% of the ball, while Indonesia struggled to break free from the constant pressure.

Machino, who had already posed several threats in the first half, finally capitalized on an opportunity early in the second half. A precise pass from midfield was met with a clinical finish that Indonesia’s goalkeeper Emil Audero couldn’t stop.

With the scoreline widening, Indonesia came under even more pressure and found it difficult to build any rhythm. Midway through the second half, Japan continued to dictate the tempo while Indonesia had to work hard to avoid further goals.

Machino’s early strike in the second half underscored the quality and depth of Japan’s squad — a valuable lesson for Indonesia as they prepare to face more formidable opponents at the Asian level.
