Barros: Bagnaia unlikely to win Italian MotoGP without Marquez’s mistakes

Ahead of the 2025 Italian MotoGP at Mugello Circuit, former rider Alex Barros analyzes Francesco Bagnaia’s slim chances of victory — unless his teammate Marc Marquez makes mistakes.

The Ducati rider trails Marquez by 93 points, who leads the standings with 233 points. From eight races this season, Bagnaia has claimed just one victory — significantly less than Marquez’s four wins.

“He will only win if Marquez allows it, which means crashing and making mistakes,” says Barros. “If Marquez doesn’t make mistakes, I still see it as very difficult.”

Barros suggests Bagnaia should focus on beating Alex Marquez, who currently holds second place in the standings — just 32 points behind his brother. After two pointless rounds, Bagnaia’s performance improved with a third-place finish at Aragon GP.

“Now it’s like this, if you’re not fighting with Marquez, you don’t even need to win, you just need to be competitive and beat Alex,” adds Barros.
