Barcelona’s return to Camp Nou next month under threat

According to ESPN, Barcelona’s planned return to Spotify Camp Nou for the Joan Gamper Trophy against Como on August 10 — is facing licensing challenges.

Barcelona still awaits several permits from the city government — particularly regarding stadium access security, although some other permits have been obtained. Club sources indicate a final decision will be made in the coming days.

The Johan Cruyff Stadium with its 6,000-seat capacity serves as an alternative venue — if Camp Nou permits aren’t secured in time. If the match proceeds at Camp Nou, capacity will be limited between 20,000 and 30,000 spectators.

The Camp Nou renovation, ongoing for two years — will continue throughout the season with completion targeted for early 2026-27 season. During the upcoming season, Barcelona’s home matches will be held with restricted capacity of 50,000 to 60,000 spectators.
