Barcelona Withdraws from Pursuit of Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao

Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, has officially announced that the club will no longer pursue Nico Williams, the Athletic Bilbao winger.

The 22-year-old had been a top summer transfer target for the Catalan club, particularly after his standout displays with the Spanish national team at Euro 2024.

Strong Euro 2024 Campaign Raised Interest

During Euro 2024, Williams recorded 2 goals and 1 assist across 6 matches, further enhancing his appeal to major European clubs, including Barcelona.

Optimism grew after positive discussions with his agent, and Barcelona was reportedly prepared to activate his €58 million release clause set by Athletic Bilbao.

However, despite the progress, Barcelona has now decided to withdraw from the race — citing financial constraints and other strategic priorities for the summer window.
