Barcelona Plans to Bring Back Thiago Alcantara to Coaching Staff

According to ESPN, Barcelona is in final negotiations to bring Thiago Alcantara as part of Hansi Flick’s coaching team in the coming weeks.

The former Spanish international midfielder — who graduated from La Masia academy — previously helped Flick adapt to Barcelona last season, but had to return to Liverpool due to residency administrative issues.

Financial constraints related to financial fair play rules delayed Thiago’s permanent appointment, but the Catalan club is now arranging several deals to create salary space.

Thiago Alcantara will focus on helping young players adapt to the German coach’s playing philosophy — a chemistry that was built when they achieved the treble together at Bayern Munich.

As a La Masia product, Thiago made 101 appearances for Barcelona’s first team before joining Bayern Munich in 2013. His career continued at Liverpool in 2020 before deciding to retire early last year after 98 appearances for the English club.
