According to ESPN, Marc-André ter Stegen could return to Barcelona’s Champions League squad — but only at the expense of Wojciech Szczęsny’s position.

Ter Stegen who suffered a knee injury about six months ago was replaced by Szczęsny who came out of retirement. The Polish goalkeeper has impressed with an unbeaten record in his 19 appearances for Barcelona.

While both goalkeepers can play in LaLiga, the situation differs in Champions League — where Szczęsny is registered in Ter Stegen’s position. UEFA regulations allow for reinstatement with 24-hour notice before a match.

“We will see, step by step. The good news is that he’s in a good moment. Everything is going in the right direction and we are very happy with this stage,” said Hansi Flick.

Barcelona still has potential 16 matches remaining this season, including the Champions League quarter-finals against Borussia Dortmund scheduled for next week.
