Barcelona has booked a place in the Champions League semifinals despite suffering a 3-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of the quarterfinals at Signal Iduna Park. Their commanding 4-0 victory in the first leg gave them enough cushion to progress with a 5-3 aggregate score, ending their impressive 24-match unbeaten run in 2025.

Serhou Guirassy starred for Dortmund with a hat-trick, exposing flaws in Barcelona’s defense. However, the early advantage from the first leg proved too steep for the German side to overturn.

After the match, Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick admitted to a quiet mood in the dressing room.

“There wasn’t a great atmosphere in the dressing room,” said Flick. “It was only when I told them ‘Lads, we’re into the semifinal’ that it lifted a bit.”

Barcelona was missing Alejandro Balde due to injury, with Gerard Martín stepping in. Iñigo Martínez and Pedri were also rested for this clash — potentially in preparation for the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid in the coming days.

Defender Jules Koundé voiced his concerns about the team’s lackluster display:

“I’m happy we made the semifinals, but disappointed with our performance. We didn’t press, we didn’t close spaces — all the things we did right in the first leg were missing.”

Barcelona will now await the result between Bayern Munich and Inter Milan to find out their opponent in the semifinal.
