BAM Targets Sending Two Men’s Doubles Pairs to Los Angeles 2028 Olympics

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is aiming for a new milestone by sending two men’s doubles pairs to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics — a shift from the past two Olympic Games, which saw only Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik representing the country.

Under Olympic qualification rules, a nation can send two men’s doubles pairs if both are ranked in the world’s top 8. Malaysia is currently in a promising position, with four competitive men’s doubles pairs:

  • Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin Rumsani (Ranked 1st)

  • Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik (Ranked 2nd)

  • Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun (Ranked 7th)

  • Yap Roy King/Wan Arif Wan Junaidi (Ranked 24th)

BAM’s doubles coaching director, Rexy Mainaky, views this progress with both optimism and caution.

“Right now, we have two pairs ranked at the top of the world. Our players’ performance improvements are encouraging as they boost their confidence and put pressure on other countries,” said Mainaky.
