According to an official announcement by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), world number four mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei will be separated for upcoming tournaments.

This unexpected decision — resulting from a BAM Performance Committee meeting — was directly communicated by BAM‘s Interim President.

“We have received the final report and recommendations from Nova Widianto and Rexy Mainaky,” stated Datuk V. Subramaniam. “This pair will be separated for upcoming tournaments.”

“We have agreed to give time to the coaches to try possible combinations,” he added.

Notably, Nova Widianto and Rexy Mainaky — who serve as head coach of mixed doubles and doubles coaching director of Malaysia, respectively — have been guiding this pair since their reunion about two and a half years ago.

The split raises questions about Malaysia‘s mixed doubles strategy ahead of key international tournaments, as both players now face the challenge of adjusting to new partners while maintaining their competitive edge on the global stage.
