Bad Weather Disrupts NASCAR Brickyard 400 Practice Sessions

NASCAR was forced to cancel the Brickyard 400 Cup practice session on Friday due to thunderstorms at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. As a solution, organizers have scheduled a new 25-minute practice session for Saturday — shorter than the initially planned 50 minutes.

This combined session is scheduled to take place after Xfinity Series qualifying and before Cup Series qualifying. However, the weather forecast for Saturday afternoon still shows potential thunderstorms with temperatures reaching the 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit range.

If bad weather forces the cancellation of Saturday’s practice and qualifying sessions, Denny Hamlin will start from pole position. The driver who just announced a multi-year contract with Joe Gibbs Racing faces a similar situation to last week when pre-race activities were also cancelled.

At the short track Indianapolis Raceway Park, NASCAR also cancelled the Truck Series qualifying session — Corey Heim has been designated as the pole position holder for that race.
