Atlético Madrid Close to Completing €50 Million Alex Baena Transfer

According to ESPN, Álex Baena is set to join Atlético Madrid from Villarreal — a transfer deal worth €45 million plus €5 million in add-ons is close to completion.

The 23-year-old midfielder has been a prime target for manager Diego Simeone — who previously stated the team needed reinforcement following their early exit from the Club World Cup.

Villarreal managed to secure their desired valuation for Baena — his release clause was set at €55 million, but the €50 million deal including bonuses was deemed satisfactory.

The Spanish international’s strong desire to join Atlético was crucial in the agreement — beating out interest from Aston Villa and a Saudi Pro League club.

Atlético Madrid are also reportedly nearing deals with Atalanta defender Matteo Ruggeri and Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso.
