Arsenal officially signs Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea

Arsenal have completed the signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea for £5 million, according to ESPN sources.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper — who will wear number 13 — joins on a three-year contract with a release clause. Kepa will serve as backup to David Raya following an impressive season at Bournemouth where he kept nine clean sheets in 35 appearances.

Arsenal previously targeted Joan García from Espanyol, but the 24-year-old keeper opted to join Barcelona instead. Kepa will replace Neto who returns to Bournemouth after his loan spell ended.

“I’m really happy to be here and looking forward to what’s coming. The club’s ambition, when speaking with Mikel and Inaki, they showed their great desire to win,” said Kepa.

“We’re very happy to bring Kepa in. He brings extensive experience that will benefit his teammates and has a great hunger to win,” said Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta.

Kepa joined Chelsea in 2018 for €80 million — making him the world’s most expensive goalkeeper at the time. During his time at Stamford Bridge, he won the Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup.
