According to The Guardian, Arsenal have initiated contact with Athletic Club winger Nico Williams‘ representatives regarding a potential summer transfer move.

Arsenal’s new sporting director, Andrea Berta, has begun preliminary work to secure the Spanish international, who has a release clause set at €58 million.

Williams has recorded nine goal contributions in 25 La Liga matches this season — performance that has reinforced The Gunners’ confidence in his potential after monitoring his development for the past two years.

The 22-year-old is known for his impressive dribbling ability — only Lamine Yamal has attempted more take-ons in Europe’s top five leagues with 241 attempts compared to Williams’ 180.

Barcelona previously showed interest in Williams last summer but opted to sign Dani Olmo instead.

Athletic Club is currently competing for a Champions League spot and will face Rangers in the Europa League quarter-finals next week.
